The best interaction and user experience designers also have deep technical backgrounds to support their art. A designer who is also a web developer can effectively communicate their visions with developers and, on small projects, do the implementation himself.

My background is in computer science, allowing me to code dynamic websites in a variety of languages, from PHP to Ruby on Rails.

  1. Mundelein Alumni 10-year Reunion website — Full website in Ruby on Rails designed, built, and tested in 2007. Mundelein Alumni was a small web project to provide a highly experiential experience to learning about and signing up for Mundelein High School's Class of 1997 10-year reunion. View the website. (The reunion is long since over. Feel free to play with the application to your heart's content.)
  2. Childhood Speech & Language website — Full five page PHP website designed, built, and tested in 2004. Childhood Speech & Language aims to net new clients, generate leads, and provide helpful information to parents of children with speech or language issues. View the website.
  3. Project Y website — Full site and blog designed and built on top of WordPress in 2007. Project Y is a small marketing website with blog and merchandise available for purchase. Site is still in development.
